As far back as I can remember I have always had a strong and profound connection
to nature and spirit. It felt natural to always be outdoors playing. Most of
my memories are of being outside in some way. I can recall as a very small
child swinging on vines, picking strawberries, wading in a neighbour’s pond and
playing with her tortoises. Outside there was always a new adventure to be
discovered. This was also the period ‘spirit’ began to make a large imprint on
my life.
As my father was in the Air Force we moved around a fair bit. One of the places
we lived in was a small village called Avonsleigh in the Dandenong Ranges.
It was here that I made the tangible connection to my deep love of nature. I
fell in love with it all - the trees, ferns, mosses, wildflowers and the mists.
I loved being out in it, and would often spend hours outdoors, not coming
inside until I absolutely had to.
This connection with nature was and still is very profound for me.
I once watched a program in which the elderly residents of a retirement
village stood around watching as their lovely cottage gardens full of jonquils
and flowers were graded away to be replaced by layers of bark chips and lawn. I
remember seeing how upset they were and the distress mirrored in their eyes. I
really felt for them and vowed to one day help people in these situations find
a better alternative, enabling them to save their beloved gardens.
I also had a strong interest in herbs, over the years making all my own
creams, tinctures and lotions!!
To increase my knowledge I then went on to CIT studying a Certificate in
Horticulture. I enjoyed it so much I continued on and did the Diploma
specialising in Landscape Construction, Landscape Design and Nursery Business Practices.
From there my interest in design deepened, so I went on to study for a
degree in Bachelor of Landscape Architecture at UC. I completed a major in
Cultural Heritage Management and Cultural Heritage Landscapes. Building on from
this I studied Business & Frontline Management.
During my years of formal study I was also introduced to the metaphysical
side of life, studying different religions, philosophies and spiritual
concepts. This was a journey into the exploration of my self, leading to a
deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of everything – nature, humanity
and spirituality.
This then directed me to a more holistic outlook in my garden designs. I
considered the difficulties of this as the design and building of gardens is
considered to be part of the mundane or physical realm, while holism is seen to
be a part of the transcendental or metaphysical (spiritual) realm.
My objective over the last few years has been to integrate the spiritual and
physical aspects of my garden designs and their construction so they function
in harmony and balance with each other.
During this period I developed an innate passion in Healing Gardens
and the significance and value of nature and the landscape as a therapeutic
medium for healing.
To date I run a Landscape Design business and the
Diaura Spiritual Centre. Through this we teach, hold workshops and offer
healing and mentoring to the community. When teaching I use nature as one of
the chief elements. I find it is a tangible medium that most people can
associate with and connect to.
I travel Australia
as a professional medium, also working at the Mind Body Spirit Festivals in
each state.
I am currently in the process of integrating all the facets of the business
together, adding new components and fine tuning others. My dream is to
eventually have a permanent building where everything is readily available to
the community.
