Chi Qong: Chi (breath energy) Qong (training), is known as
Chinese yoga. It is an ancient Chinese health and meditation practice as well
as the foundation for internal martial arts such as Tai Chi Chuan.
Based on the principle of internal energy cultivation, Chi Qong
has been taught as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and as an aid in
healing and strengthening the body, harmonising the emotions and calming the
mind.
The purpose of Chi Qong is to activate, circulate, ground and
channel energy also known as Chi. Chi is the underlying energy inherent in all
things. It is akin to the unifying force described in quantum physics. Within
every human being there are aspects of Chi/energy associated with thought,
feelings and the physical body. We might say that all of these energies are Chi
in varying form.
There are two main properties of Chi that pertain to the
quality of health and well being of every person. These properties are
described as; STATIC CHI and FLUID CHI.
Static Chi is energy without movement. It is
like a frozen river. When our Chi/energy freezes it affects how we think, feel
and behave and we often describe our selves as feeling "stuck". Some
of the symptoms of Static Chi are physical tension, anxiety, and the inability
to see and think clearly and effectively.
Fluid Chi is energy in motion. It is like a
flowing stream. Our experience of Fluid Chi is vastly different than Static
Chi. When our Chi is flowing freely we feel clear headed, responsive, energized
and emotionally balanced. We feel more present and connected to our internal
experience and to the world around us, and there is a relative sense of freedom
and ease to our movement and actions.
In Chi Qong, emphasis is placed on softening, breathing,
grounding, and connecting your heart/mind with nature and the universe. 'Open Heart Chi Qong'
can be described as the practice of moving and strengthening your internal
energies. Just as we strengthen our physical body through movement, so it is
with our energy body as well. By activating, circulating and expressing our
energy body we increase our stamina and endurance while nurturing our vital
essence. This practice serves as the foundation for creating and maintaining
optimal health and well being.
Chi Qong masters have been known to live well
into their hundreds and diligent students of the practice have also enjoyed the
benefits of greater physical energy, mobility and emotional balance throughout
their lives.
When practiced with a clear intention and an open heart, Chi
Qong can become a powerful tool for transformation and self cultivation. Chi
Qong is simple and easy to learn and can be practiced anywhere and requires
little space.
